New Year, Better You.
So the festive period is finally over and in the back of our heads we all know it’s time to put down the chocolate and get back on track!
Here at Lift-It Worldwide HQ, we want you to smash 2017, so we have come up with a few tips and tricks to get you on the path to success!
Many of us will make New Year’s resolutions, but what’s the best way to stick to it? According to a study in 2002, one in three people will make a resolution but whilst 75% of people stick to their goals for the first week, less than half are still on target six months later! Psychologists have found that we are more likely to succeed at our resolutions if we break it down into smaller goals that are specific, measurable, and time-based.
Team LIFT-IT Athlete Effie's top tips to get back on track for 2017:
- Make only ONE resolution.
It is much easier to channel your energy into changing one aspect of your life in comparison to having three or more!
- Think about what you really want in life.
That can be quitting smoking, running a half-marathon, losing weight, being more active, or keeping a journal. Whatever it is, don’t run with the crowd. Create your own goals.
- Tell your friends and family about your resolution and goals.
This way you will have a support structure and accountability!
- Record progress.
This can be in the form of progress photos, spreadsheets, or a hand-written journal. Being able to look back on how far you’ve come is a great form of motivation.
- Nobody is perfect!
Expect to have failures from time-to-time, but treat them as temporary set-backs, learn from your mistakes and get back up!
- Find a resolution buddy!
Having a friend who also has similar goals to you will help you progress and stay on track. If you both want to be more active, make sure you both get a gym membership at the same gym and workout! Having someone there will push you to work harder and will make you accountable.
- Don’t be afraid to try something new.
If running or going to the gym seems mundane, then try something different that will achieve the same goals. For example, hiking or kickboxing!
